          Daniel Defoe (Londres, 1660-1731) fue novelista, periodista, poeta e historiador; su vida transcurrió por oscuros vericuetos: viajes, empleos diversos, amistades políticas y misiones secretas. En su obra cultivó distintos géneros, como la sátira: El verdadero inglés de Inglaterra (1701), El medio más rápido para acabar con los disidentes (1702) y Augusta Triumphants o Cómo hacer de Londres la ciudad más floreciente del mundo (1728); la novela realista: La aventuras de Moll Flanders (1722), Diario del año de la peste (1722) y Roxana o la amante afortunada(1724), y el ensayo económico-político: Consideraciones sobre el crédito público (1724), El perfecto comerciante inglés (1726) y Plan del comercio inglés (1728). Con todo, su obra más conocida es sin duda Robinson Crusoe (1719). John Richetti es catedrático emérito A. M. Rosenthal de lengua inglesa en la Universidad de Pensilvania y autor de The Life of Daniel Defoe (2005).

          Acerca de Howard Pyle

          Howard Pyle (5 de marzo de 1853 - 9 de noviembre de 1911) fue un ilustrador y escritor norteamericano, gran conocedor de la leyendas medievales. Se inspiró en canciones populares inglesas y escocesas para escribir Las alegres aventuras de Robin Hood o Historia de Lancelot y la tabla redonda. Además revolucionó la ilustración empleando, por primera vez, el fotograbado y la impresión en color, técnicas que enseñaba en su propia escuela.

          Acerca de Ralph D. Paine

          Ralph Delahaye Paine, born in Lemont, Illinois in 1871 was interested in adventure from an early age and carried that spirit with him through most of his life. As a young man he attended Yale University and became an avid rower for the crew team and refined an interest in writing with various magazine articles. Upon leaving Yale, Paine embarked on an adventurous career as an international journalist.In 1896 he and his friend Stephen Crane were among a number of journalists sent to Havana to cover the Cuban Revolution. On his return to New York in 1899 he married Katharine Lansing with whom he raised five children on his farm in Durham, New Hampshire while writing over forty books including his autobiography, Roads of Adventure. He died at the age of 54 in 1925.

          Acerca de Stanley Lane-Poole

          Stanley Lane-Poole (1854-1931) researched Egyptian archaeology for the British Museum and was Professor of Arabic studies at Dublin University. His books include The Life of Edward William Lane (1877), Egypt (1881), Studies in a Mosque (1883), Social Life in Egypt (1884), The Story of the Moors in Spain (1886), Turkey (1888), Saladin (1898), and The Mohammedan Dynasties (1894), among others.
