- Thomas Paine (February 9, 1737 [O.S. January 29, 1736]- June 8, 1809) was an American and English political activist, philosopher, political theorist and revolutionary. As the author of the two most influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution, he inspired the Patriots in 1776 to declare independence from Britain. His ideas reflected Enlightenment-era rhetoric of transnational human rights.

Thomas Paine (1737-1809), filósofo, político y revolucionario angloamericano. Es considerado un Padre Fundador de los Estados Unidos de América por sus contribuciones expuestas en el ensayo El sentido común, donde aboga por la independencia de las colonias. Asimismo, fue incluido dentro de la Asamblea Nacional en Francia y le otorgaron la nacionalidad honorífica. En su texto Los derechos del hombre defendió los ideales de la Revolución francesa. Sin embargo, sus ideas políticas y religiosas lo llevaron a ser aislado políticamente y murió ignorado el 8 de junio de 1809 en Nueva York.
