'Montague Rhodes (M. R.) James' was a British author widely considered to be one of the greatest writers of supernatural stories of all time, and one who is most cited as an influence by later writers. He was also a translator, an antiquarian, a medievalist scholar and provost, first of King's College, Cambridge, and then of Eton College. During his time at Cambridge, M. R. James served as director of the Fitzwilliam Museum. M. R. James' published work includes 'Ghost Stories of an Antiquary', 'A Warning to the Curious and Other Ghost Stories' and 'A Thin Ghost and Others'.

Edward Frederic Benson nació en Wellington College (Berkshire, Inglaterra) en 1867. La serie consiste en seis novelas, Reina Lucía (1920), La señorita Mapp Mapp (1922), Lucia in London (1927), Mapp y Lucía (1931), Lucia’s Progress (1935) y Trouble for Lucia (1939), además de dos historias cortas, The Male Impersonator, que tradicionalmente aparece como apéndice a la novela Miss Mapp, y Desirable Residences. Benson, escritor victoriano, como M. R. James, es muy conocido también por sus historias de fantasmas, las cuales aparecen frecuentemente en antologías del género. Ellen Glasgow (1873–1945) was a novelist, poet, and short story writer. Coming from a prominent Virginia family, she was a pillar of Richmond society. Despite this, she continued to publish unconventional fiction, with feminist and progressive themes. She was awarded the 1942 Pulitzer Prize for fiction for her last novel, This Is Our Life.

Margaret Oliphant (1828-1897) was a Scottish novelist and historian. She published her first novel at the age of twenty-one and went on to produce more than 120 works of fiction and non-fiction, becoming the sole support of her family following the death of her husband.

Novelist, short-story writer and poet, Owen Marshall has written or edited twenty-three books to date. Awards for his fiction include the New Zealand Literary Fund Scholarship in Letters, fellowships at Otago and Canterbury universities and the Katherine Mansfield Memorial Fellowship in Menton, France. In 2000 he received the ONZM for services to literature and his novel HARLEQUIN REX won the Montana New Zealand Book Awards Deutz Medal for Fiction. In 2002 the University of Canterbury awarded him the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, and in 2005 appointed him an adjunct professor. Born in 1941, Owen Marshall has spent almost all his life in South Island towns, and has an affinity with provincial New Zealand.
