- Acerca de Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson nació en 1830 en Amherst, una pequeña ciudad de Massachusetts, en el seno de una familia influyente (su padre, Edward, abogado eminente, era diputado en el Congreso de Estados Unidos). Después de haber estudiado en la Academia de Amherst, en 1847 entró en el Seminario femenino de Mount Holyoke, aunque interrumpió sus estudios al año siguiente, afectada por una fuerte nostalgia por su familia y el paisaje natal. Excluidas algunas breves estancias en Washington, Filadelfia y Boston, llevó una vida retirada y solitaria en la casa paterna de Amherst, ocupándose del jardín, escribiendo poesía y manteniendo una extensa correspondencia con amigos y tutores. Murió en 1886. Su obra, integrada por 1.775 poemas, de los cuales no llegó a publicar ni una decena en vida, hace de ella una de las voces más significativas de la literatura norteamericana.
